Stephen joined Microsoft in June 2019 as Industry Executive for health, working across the sector as industry expert and digital transformation leader. Stephen spent the previous 4.5 years as CIO for South London and Maudsley NHS FT, a trust known for achieving success on its digital transformation journey.
Whilst at SLaM, Stephen and his team became the first NHS trust to fully adopt Office 365 and were the first of two UK organisations to develop cloud services in Microsoft Azure (2016), as part of delivering SLaM's digital strategy and enabling a digital workforce. In 2017, South London & Maudsley was selected by NHSE to become London's global digital exemplar (GDE) for mental health services.
Prior to the NHS, Stephen has a technology background covering digital marketing, the games industry, retail and high-tech manufacturing. From 2016 - 2019, Stephen was Chair of London CIO Council for health providers across the capital.
What you will bring to the Health & Social Care Council and the techUK Health & Social Care programme:
Having worked in the tech industry, and then the NHS for the last 4.5 years before joining Microsoft, has given me a unique perspective on how we can evolve and transform our health and social care sector.
I was fortunate to be the CIO for SLaM, where we set out a vision and a strategy and delivered much success in digital transformation, and therefore I am a credible leader who has delivered already, not only in health but previous industries too. The reason I have joined Microsoft is that I want to be able to make a bigger impact in health and social care and being a part of techUK will allow me to contribute towards the strategic aims and objectives of the group.
I can see the bigger picture and believe in system thinking, with the ability to join up the dots. For me, developing the partner ecosystem and working in collaboration with others is the way forward. I keep on top of global industry trends and I’m dedicated to life-long learning, and really believe in the use of technology for the greater good, and with techUK we have a wonderful opportunity to make this happen.
