I have been involved in healthcare and related technology for 35 years. I started my career as a medical technologist, becoming chief biomedical scientist at what is now Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, before moving onto the supplier side, where I worked for many years at Cerner. As director of European services, I was responsible for Cerner’s European consulting practice and for implementations across the UK, Saudi Arabia, and Europe.
More recently, I have worked for Dell services and now for Allscripts, where I am vice president and managing director, EMEA, and once again involved in successful implementations of both electronic patient records and population health management solutions in the UK and the Middle East. I believe my combination of NHS, supplier and implementation experience, and my track record of delivery at a senior level, makes me a strong candidate for the TechUK health and social care council.
What you will bring to the Health & Social Care Council and the techUK Health & Social Care programme:
As outlined above, I believe the combination of NHS, supplier and implementation experience makes me a strong candidate for the the TechUK health and social care council. To successfully support TechUK’s health and social care programme, the council needs members who can understand the evolving health tech environment and articulate the needs of suppliers, users and patients. It is only by addressing everybody’s priorities we will be able to move forward together.
I support the health and social care programme’s mission to work collaboratively on evolving issues, such as interoperability standards, however I would argue that we also need to learn lessons from successful implementations, like the ones that I have led throughout my career, to make sure that healthcare technology delivers on the vision of improved health and high-quality care for all.
This is a challenging but exciting time to be involved in the health tech industry, and I think now is the moment for the TechUK health and social care council to take a true leadership role in shaping its next steps. I believe my background, experience, and willingness to speak up for all stakeholders will enable me to play a role in enabling it to do that.
